Programmes

Our programmes are designed to support strengthening language teaching in schools at primary and secondary levels.

Our Workshops and Immersion weekends are well attended, and for a more structured programme consider our GROW programmes and Strengthening Asia Pacific Language Teaching programmes.

We also have one-off workshops available throughout the year.

GROW Progammes

Build a strong foundation for your language teaching with a year of immersive, inspiring workshops.

Through a mix of face-to-face and online sessions, along with in-school support, the GROW Programme helps you develop language teaching skills to take back to your classroom.

You’ll also form connections with other language-teaching Kaiako, for a strong network of inter-school support.

GROW 9: Deaf Education-Building Capacity for Teachers of the Deaf

This series of workshops is designed as a continuation of the programme with teachers at Ko Taku Reo - Deaf Education NZ. Teachers will be supported in an inquiry into best practice when teaching in and with a second language.

GROW 12: Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) Consolidation

This programme is intended for those teachers who have successfully completed GROW Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) programme in 2019, 2020 or 2021. It aims to further enhance your understanding and implementation of the Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) approach with more individualized support.

GROW 14: Developing Effective Language Learning Resources

This programme is intended for PRIMARY and INTERMEDIATE schools and teachers of ALL LANGUAGES who wish to pursue their inquiry focusing on examining and enhancing their language learning resources to make their lessons more effective for their learners

GROW 16: Support for Beginning Teachers of Languages

This program is intended for BEGINNING TEACHERS of ALL LANGUAGES (less than 5 years of language teaching experience) who wish to build their confidence, knowledge and classroom abilities.

Strengthening Asia-Pacific Language Teaching

Our Asia-Pacific programmes support language learning through connections with fluent speakers and other language teachers. Cluster-based and mentored by our facilitator team, the programmes use a combination of face-to-face sessions, online meetings, and in-school support to help teachers develop their language teaching skill sets. There is a language study option with a grant-in-aid available.

SAPLT-NA Grant in Aid

In the current environment, the Grant-in-aid of $500 towards language study which is a part of the Strengthening Asia-Pacific Language Teaching – North Asia programme is a huge benefit to teachers to have another means of language learning and support at this time.

North Asia CAPE - PACT and SAPLT NA Alumni Event

We warmly invite all former and current participants of our PACT and SAPLT North Asia programmes to attend a workshop day and early evening function with the North Asia CAPE and the Tui Tuia | Learning Circle Languages team.

Strengthening Asia-Pacific Language Teaching – Latin America

This brand-new programme is for teachers at primary/intermediate and lower secondary school level who wish to develop or enhance a Spanish language programme and who can connect with native speakers in their community.

Immersion Programmes

Fully immersing yourself in another culture is the best way to grow your language knowledge. Our short, intensive immersion courses involve spending two or three weeks in an overseas setting , putting your language knowledge into practice. Designed to help teachers improve their language confidence, cultural understanding, and teaching, these programmes have seen New Zealand teachers travel to Spain, China, Japan, Germany and Tahiti.

Queenstown Domestic Immersions

The 2022 Language and Cultural Immersion Programmes for teachers of Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish, are an opportunity for teachers to spend five nights in Queenstown soaking up their target language and culture with the Tui Tuia | Learning Circle - Languages team, other selected teachers from around the country and language/culture-specific organisations.

International Language Assistant Programme

Bring cultural insight, youthful enthusiasm, and authentic language into your school with an International Language Assistant. Through our programme, young native speakers visiting from France, Germany, or Spain can work in New Zealand schools for up to a year, as assistants to language teachers.

National Language Advisers – knowledge and expertise on tap

 With deep knowledge and cultural expertise in their respective languages, our National Language Advisers are a valuable source of insight and advice for teachers all over New Zealand.
