Spanish Immersion Programme - SALAMANCA

Immersion programme

Face to face

Ministry funded

Living so far away from Spanish-speaking countries can make it challenging to keep our language expertise and cultural capability current. Participating in the Salamanca immersion programme allows teachers to set goals around language learning and teaching, experience the rich culture of Salamanca and environs, and return to Aotearoa and their classrooms filled with inspiration.

About the course

Course information

  • Term 3 holidays: Monday 30 September – Friday 11 October (2 weeks)
  • 2-week course at Cursos Internacionales, Universidad de Salamanca
  • Flights depart Auckland Friday 27 September and arrive back in Auckland Monday 14 October.
  • Registrations open on 8 May 2024 and close on 28 May 2024

What we will cover

Teachers selected for this programme will travel to Spain and take part in two weeks of intensive language, culture and history learning with Cursos Internacionales at the prestigious Universidad de Salamanca.

All classes and activities are conducted in Spanish, so a level of basic fluency is required to be successful in your application. There will be an online language test for successful applicants to complete for appropriate placement in grammar lessons.

This fully immersive programme will give your language skills a huge boost and enhance your understanding of Spanish culture and history. You will return to your students with a refreshed enthusiasm for teaching Spanish.

  • Applicants must be New Zealand registered teachers who are currently teaching Spanish at a New Zealand school and are intending to continue to teach Spanish in NZ in 2025 and beyond.
