Overview

Do your students struggle with distinguishing long vowels, the small っ, or ん? Are you confident in guiding them through pitch accent patterns and natural intonation in Japanese? Join our 75-minute workshop designed for Japanese language teachers to explore phonetics beyond single sounds. Led by Chisato Yoshioka, Japanese National Language Adviser, this session will focus on special mora (特殊拍), accent (アクセント), and intonation (イントネーション), which are essential features for sounding natural in Japanese. Participants will receive clear explanations and take part in interactive practice, with opportunities to share teaching strategies with fellow teachers. They will gain confidence in supporting learners’ pronunciation and prosody and leave with practical ideas ready to use in their classroom.
