Join our monthly 45-minute online session to engage in a casual conversation with other Japanese language teachers and with Chisato Yoshioka, our Japanese National Language Adviser.

Registrations open on 10 June and close on 2 July 2024

Topic for July: Tanabata (Star Festival), Umi-no-hi (Marine Day), etc.

  • August session: Thursday 1 August 2024

Registrations open on 5 July and close on 31 July 2024

Topic for August: Mountain Day (山の日), Obon (お盆), Firework Festivals (花火大会) etc.

  • September session: Thursday 5 September 2024

Registrations open on 2 August and close on 4 September 2024

Topic for September: Moon Viewing (お月見), Respect for the Aged Day (敬老の日), Autumnal Equinox Day (秋分の日) etc.

  • October session: Thursday 3 October 2024

Registrations open on 6 September and close on 2 October 2024

Topic for October: Sports Day (体育の日), Halloween (ハロウィン), "Autumn of ~" (「~の秋」), etc.

What we will cover

These online sessions provide Japanese language teachers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in Japanese language and culture by discussing seasonal events and highlights. They offer a chance for teachers in different regions to meet and connect.

Topics change every month, featuring seasonal events and highlights of the month.

Participants will have the chance to share their own experiences in Japan and/or classroom activities related to the topic.

Throughout the session, teachers will:

1)     Get new insights about Japanese language and culture

2)     Get tips to make the most of your class

3)     Get to know each other

Tui Tuia | Learning Circle Languages is funded to provide professional learning for provisionally and fully registered Primary, Intermediate and Secondary teachers throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
