Overview
Rosaria Campbell was an extraordinary linguist, educator and person. She taught French, lead departments and held the position of National Language Adviser for French from early 2017 - mid 2018. Rosaria spent the last few years of her life in France where she led the development of the New Zealand Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata in Le Quesnoy, overseeing the transformation of the Museum’s 19th-century building into Aotearoa’s tūrangawaewae on the Western Front. In memory of the contributions Rosaria made to the teaching and learning of French in New Zealand during her short but impactful career, this award will be given to one teacher who will travel to France in September 2025. The recipient will have the opportunity to spend a week collaborating with the Museum’s education team and local teachers in Le Quesnoy as well as immerse themselves in Parisian culture, retracing some of Rosaria's favourite endroits. We invite all teachers to nominate a French-teaching colleague who they believe upholds Rosaria’s values and whose efforts in supporting the language and its learners go above and beyond what is expected. Once you register your name, we will send you a nomination form to complete, where you can tell us why you believe this teacher deserves to be recognised. The person you nominate could be a teacher at your school or a different school. Please make sure you check with the person BEFORE you nominate them.
