Enhancing the way assessment is used in the classroom promotes learning and wellbeing, and informs local curriculum design, raising progress and achievement for ākonga and students. Assessment for learning is about developing the capabilities to design and use assessment for its core purpose, to support further learning. It involves the focused and timely gathering, analysis, interpretation, and use of information that can provide evidence of ākonga progress.
We’re not all the same. New Zealand education is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi but if it’s going to succeed for Maori learners and their whānau, cultural capability is critical. This requires teachers and kaiako to recognise diversity of culture, gender and sexuality and to appreciate and amplify the view through a Te Ao Māori lens.
Local Curriculum Design brings the aspirations and contributions of your community to learning. Designing a rich local curriculum allows all whānau and mana whenua to make decisions with leaders and teachers about what they want their tamariki and mokopuna to experience.

Te Reo Matatini involves accelerating learning in te reo Matatini with ākonga who are underachieving. This PLD is offered to Māori-medium kura in classrooms programmes involving a specialist kaiwhakaruruhau (facilitator) working with ākonga, their kaiako and whānau.
PLD will help kaiako identify ākonga who will participate in the programme, with assessments to identify the areas that need addressing (i.e., hot spots). Student progress is carefully monitored with regular reports provided to kaiako and whānau.
The marau ā-kura is a document that weaves together the aspirations and dreams of the whānau, the kura, the hapū, iwi and local people. The child is at the centre of the marau ā-kura.
