Alexandra was born and raised in Germany. She has spent most of her life in Cologne, a vibrant, friendly city in the western part of Germany. Alexandra moved to Cologne to study German and English at the University of Cologne.
Throughout her studies she was able to study abroad at the University of Birmingham and gained experience teaching German as a foreign language in various countries. In 2000, Alex was given the opportunity to come to New Zealand for a teaching placement at Victoria University and she fell in love with Aotearoa. Once she completed her Masters, she went to the UK for her teaching diploma before returning to Germany to teach English and German at various schools.
Alexandra’s role is to support the promotion and development of the German language education in New Zealand. She enjoys working with the German teaching community around New Zealand and aims to provide them with the best support possible.
Alexandra firmly believes that every language we learn opens a window to another culture and opens up invaluable new possibilities for our lives and togetherness. One of her keen interests is to develop new and creative learning opportunities that allow students to apply their language skills in scenarios that are as authentic as possible. Alexandra is also very interested in finding ways to foster and combine cultural competency and media literacy in the foreign language classroom.
Outside of teaching, Alexandra loves listening to music, reading, learning about new cuisines, traveling and she enjoys being out in the beautiful nature of Aotearoa with friends and family.
