What we will cover

This course assists Teacher Aides to recognise and understand common types of anxiety that students of all ages may be experiencing as well as the triggers that contribute to student anxiety. Enabling Ākonga to share their own narrative and sense-making about their education experiences, and ensuring the environment is safe and welcoming for Ākonga to feel comfortable taking risks in their learning are the main focus of this PLD.

You will be able to recognise common types of anxiety in children and adolescents, and understand how anxiety affects young people. You will also gain knowledge about the types of strategies that can be implemented and practice skills to help support students with anxiety.

This course builds your capability in the following Teacher Aide Competency area:

  • Monitor and observe learners and maintain their health and safety;  Identify and respond to children and young people at risk.
