What we will cover

This traditional Chinese holiday, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar, is marked by dragon boat races and the delicious sticky rice dumplings called zongzi.

In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to further enhance your understanding of this cultural festival and gain practical classroom ideas. You'll learn how to make zongzi (粽子), the traditional sticky rice dumplings, as well as origami paper rice dumplings. You'll also have the chance to create Chinese Shadow Puppets (皮影) and experience Shadow Play (皮影戏), a traditional Chinese art form. In addition, you'll learn Yangko Dance (秧歌), a Chinese folk dance that adds vibrancy to the celebrations.

This workshop is available at no cost and open to provisionally and fully registered teachers who are currently teaching Chinese, as well as those who are interested in teaching Chinese at Primary, Intermediate, and Secondary Schools in the near future.
