2024 International Languages Week: Winners and Acknowledgements

August 28, 2024

2024 International Languages Week: Winners and Acknowledgements

International Languages Week was held from June 10 to June 14 this year. This week is dedicated to celebrating the many languages and cultures in New Zealand within our schools, communities, and country. About 160 languages are spoken in New Zealand. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their language skills in a fun and exciting way, as well as to celebrate their growing understanding of the target language they are acquiring in the New Zealand classroom context.

To support teachers and students this year, Tui Tuia | Learning Circle – Languages launched its first International Languages Week competition. Each day during the week, Tui Tuia posted a challenge for primary, intermediate, and secondary schools to engage with.

Schools needed to take a picture of their entry and send it to a dedicated Tui Tuia team member’s email. Entries were judged blind by a carefully selected panel of Tui Tuia | Learning Circle – Languages team members. We are pleased to announce this year’s winners:

Day 1:
Primary – Gulf Harbour School
Intermediate – South Wellington Intermediate School
Secondary – St Mathew's Collegiate

Day 2:
Secondary – Logan Park High School

Day 3:
Secondary – Epsom Girls Grammar School

Day 4:
Secondary – Green Bay High School

Tui Tuia | Learning Circle – Languages would like to congratulate the winners and acknowledge all teachers and students who participated. Each winning school will receive a prize pack and certificate, while all other participating schools will receive a certificate of participation and an acknowledgment gift. Congratulations to all!
