Explore Korean Language and Culture Through Webtoons

Webtoons are becoming an increasingly popular tool for teaching Korean, offering learners an engaging way to improve their language skills while exploring Korean culture.

A great set of resources to dive into is 세종학당재단 우리의 맛있는 연결고리, which features a collection of webtoons centred around Korean food, traditions, and cultural practices. These webtoons introduce learners to food and cultural elements like 미역국 (miyeokguk - seaweed soup, traditionally eaten on birthdays), 떡국 (tteokguk - rice cake soup, enjoyed during 설날 Seollal - the Korean Lunar New Year), 떡볶이 (tteokbokki - spicy rice cakes, a popular street food loved by many), 파전 (pajeon - savoury pancakes often enjoyed on rainy days), and 김치찌개/된장찌개 (kimchi jjigae, doenjang jjigae - comfort food, widely enjoyed in Korean households).

As learners read through these stories, you can provide them with opportunities not only to improve their reading skills but also to gain insight into the cultural context behind the language, making learning both fun and meaningful. This exposure can also open learners to broader career opportunities, where they may choose to combine their language proficiency with creativity.

More and more teachers are discovering how webtoons can make Korean language lessons more engaging and interactive for students. Whether you’re looking to enhance reading skills or introduce Korean culture to your learners, these webtoons are a great resource to add to your kete of teaching tools and deepen your learners' understanding of both the language and its traditions. Why not visit the website today to start exploring the world of Korean webtoons and introduce a fresh, exciting resource into your classroom? Happy Teaching!
