North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence's K-Hub Initiative

Tui Tuia | Learning Circle - Languages is proud to collaborate closely with the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence to provide teachers with quality support and opportunities for professional learning and development.

We are thrilled to share that on March 13, 2023, two of our close partners, the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (NA CAPE), a New Zealand government-funded organization supporting Asia-Pacific education, engagement, and economic development, and the Korean Education Centre in New Zealand (KEC), a South Korean government-funded organization promoting Korean language and culture abroad, signed a renewed memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen their partnership in promoting educational and cultural exchanges between Aotearoa and South Korea.

Since 2019, the MOU has enabled the two organizations to work together in supporting Korean language classes and cultural events in schools across the country. In 2022, NA CAPE and KEC collaborated closely to establish the K-Hub, providing over 100 students and professionals in Ōtara, central Auckland, and Albany with Korean language learning opportunities and immersive cultural experiences.

Don't miss this fantastic video on their website showcasing the K-Hub initiative by the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, which provides Korean language learning opportunities and cultural immersion experiences to diverse communities in NZ!

Korean Festival in NZ Schools

The Korean Education Centre in New Zealand (KEC) is excited to share that nineteen schools have been selected to participate in the Korean Festival in NZ Schools in Terms 2 and 3. KEC has reached out to these schools to offer the opportunity to bring one or more of three immersive Korean cultural experiences to their classrooms: Taekwondo, K-pop dance, or Traditional Activity.

Learning about different cultures is essential for students to become global citizens who are respectful, empathetic, and open-minded. If your school missed out on the chance to apply for the Korean Festival in NZ Schools, don't worry. KEC offers a range of other opportunities to explore Korean language and culture:

  • Korean Language Award (Sep): KEC awards one student from each school who has achieved an outstanding result in their Korean language learning at the end of the school year.
  • Korean Speech Competition (Oct): KEC hosts a Korean speech competition annually celebrating Hanguel Day. Held in Term 3, this event is a fantastic opportunity for learners to showcase their Korean language skills and connect with other students learning Korean across Aotearoa New Zealand.
  • Korean Resource Packs (Dec): KEC donates Korean books and resources to selected schools to enrich teaching and learning culture.
  • Korean Class Fund: In partnership with North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence (NA CAPE), KEC provides funding support for schools to establish new or strengthen their existing Korean language programme(s). Applications open in November and close in early December every year.

For more information on these funding and opportunities, please don't hesitate to contact the Korean Education Centre in New Zealand (KEC).
