Celebrations were held accross New Zealand in June to mark the 60th Anniversary of Samoan Independence. I was lucky enough to experience these celebrations with my extended Samoan family in Dunedin, watching my cousin's daughter perform Siva Samoa with her church group. It was a chance for those with Samoan heritage and those with an interest in Samoan language and culture to come together and celebrate this occasion over dance, food and speeches.
