In Aotearoa, global citizenship education is embedded within the vision, values, principles, and key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum.
Aimed at ākonga in Years 5–8 (8 to 12 years old), this free web-browser based digital game is freely available to schools and kura in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is available in English and te reo Māori and encourages young Kiwis to take on a virtual adventure to South Korea to learn more about the country and its culture.
Aotearoa Explorers is also available for other countries in the Asia-Pacific region and a free supporting resource containing information and ideas is also available for teachers to download helping them to make the most out of the game by linking in-game experiences to deeper learning about the concept of global citizenship. With Te Takanga o Te Wā and Aotearoa New Zealand Histories starting to be a part of all kura and schools' marau ā-kura and local curriculum from 2023, it is vital to make Te Tiriti accessible to everyone in Aotearoa including parents and communities to help them to better understand what their children are learning at school. Tangata Tiriti – Treaty People has launched Te Tiriti in Our Language educational resources in September 2022 giving an introduction to Te Tiriti in fourteen community languages including Korean.
