Marian Pearce

Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou, based in Tāmaki Makaurau

Marian is an experienced teacher and PLD facilitator who thrives on supporting schools to develop their own high quality Te Ao Māori learning experiences and programs.  
Marian works alongside teachers and senior leadership to build their capability to implement culturally sustaining practices that enhance the success and achievement of Māori learners.

Marian joined The University of Auckland as a lecturer in 2001 co-ordinating and teaching courses in the Indigenous Education, Social Science, Arts, Human Development and Gifted and Talented areas. She is accredited to deliver PLD in Māori and English medium settings with skills and experience in:

  • Working alongside kura to develop Māori Education Plans
  • Encouraging culturally responsive practices
  • Including te reo and tikanga Māori in curriculum planning
  • Assisting schools in the development of a Marae Learning Environment (MLE) that supports strengths-based teaching and learning
  • Developing a school-wide induction and mentoring programme for beginning teachers, curriculum leaders and Māori learners
