Overview
The intervention is led and driven by schools using their existing literacy expertise, and supported by Tui Tuia mentors. ALL is a school inquiry and knowledge building intervention aimed at spreading knowledge and effective teaching practice in a literacy context across the school, and each school’s annual plans and targets are used as a basis to identify groups of students who would benefit from additional support to accelerate achievement.
About the course
Accelerating Learning in Literacy (ALL) uses the expertise within the school to undertake ashort-term intervention to accelerate the progress of students not meeting expectations in reading and/or writing. The intervention is in addition to effective classroom teaching.
Teachers are supported to inquire into their practice and share their learning. Teachers will complete cycles of inquiry focused on accelerating targeted students during the year. Schools and Kāhui Ako can decide the timing and duration of the cycles and which students can be included in each cycle.
All PfS instruction is provided within the students’ regular learning setting. They may or may not be in the same teaching group but their teacher adapts their teaching in response to individual needs of the target students in order to accelerate their progress.
Tui Tuia provides mentor support for leadership and teachers. Our mentors organise across school and local meetings to discuss and share professional practice as needed.
Ministry funding of $4,000 per teacher per year supports the intervention.
